GoPro HD HERO3 released

There are 3 cameras in the HD HERO3s range.

So what's new in the HD HERO3?

The frist thing you will notice is the size. The HERO3 has the same frontal dimensions as the previous cameras but is only 2/3rds the depth and 25% lighter. The new sleeker case now has a flat lens cover to aid underwater sharpness. The camera now has blackaccents, so it looks as good as it works.

The image processor is twice as powerful as the HERO2 with even better low light performance (at least on the Black edition). Wi-Fi is built in and works the same as the current BacPac version. There is a separate (third) button to operate the Wi-Fi. All models feature looping record mode, where you can set the time interval to loop.

White HD HERO3

The HERO3: White Edition boasts the same high performance specs as the Original HD HERO camera it replaces, yet it has built-in Wi-Fi, new UI and is 30% smaller and 25% lighter. The HERO3: White Edition is wearable and gear mountable, waterproof to 197' (60m), and is capable of capturing 1080p 30 fps and 720p 60 fps video plus 5MP photos at a rate of 3 photos per second.

Silver HD HERO3
The HERO3: Silver Edition boasts the same high performance specs as the famous HD HERO2 camera it replaces, yet it has built-in Wi-Fi and is 30% smaller and 25% lighter. The HERO3: Silver Edition is wearable and gear mountable, waterproof to 197' (60m), and is capable of capturing ultra-wide 1080p 30 fps and 720p 60 fps video plus 11MP photos at a rate of 10 photos per second.

Black HD HERO 3
The Wi-Fi enabled HERO3: Black Edition is the most advanced GoPro, ever. No expense was spared during its development, resulting in a GoPro that is 30% smaller, 25% lighter and 2x more powerful than previous models. Wearable and gear mountable, waterproof to 197' (60m), capable of capturing ultra-wide 1440p 48fps, 1080p 60 fps and 720p 120 fps video and 12MP photos at a rate of 30 photos per second, the HERO3: Black Edition is the world's most versatile camera. Built-in Wi-Fi, GoPro App compatibility and the included Wi-Fi Remote (normally a separate $79.99 accessory) make the HERO3: Black Edition all the more versatile, still.

Circuit Club October 2012

Circuit Club, which was held at Wakefield Park on Monday October 1st, was a great success with the V-Sport 86 running an impressive time of 109.6 with Neal Bates behind the wheel. The V-Sport team has made a few modifications to the 86 for Motor Magazines Hot Tuner Challenge and the car is performing as planned. Click here to read the latest press release on this exciting new car.

Hot Tuner Challenge - Motor Magazine

V-Sport entered 2 cars in Motor Magazines Hot Tuner Challenge this year, a Holden VE II SS Ute and Toyota 86 GT.

The Toyota 86 performed extremely well placing 5th in the under $75k group. According to V-Sport's John Healey, the aim is to create a car that does not upset the 86's natural balance. " A good car, but one that's also a little more fun on the track", Healey says. V-Sports plan was to end up with a car that can be driven to the track/event, compete hard and then be driven home. As the Toyota 86 is only worth $30k, all modifications were kept simple and affordable however extremly effective. With AP Racing venitlated rotors (3300mm front/316mm rear) as well as four-piston calipers up front and twin piston calipers at the rear the Toyota took out the top points in the 100-0km/h test. Running a good track time and figure eight time helped the 86 secure 5th place. For the full Hot Tuner report make sure you pick up a copy of the October Motor Magazine.

Warren Luff - "these guys have spent a lot of time improving the handling package without taking away too much of the 86's fun character. Brakes are fantastic, it sounds rorty: it's such a fun car to drive."

Rick Kelly - "It's an awesome bit of kit: just fantastic to drive. It's one of the only cars where I could keep it flat though most of the corners. Whatever they have done, they're right on the money."

The Holden SS Ute rounded out the top 10. V-Sport's John Healey had this to say about the Ute "We haven't gone overboard. We've kept it naturally aspirated and everything we've done has been focused on making sure it remains a civilised road car you can drive every day. It's not going to be the fastest thing on the track, but it's still good enough to have fun, and not shake your kidneys out on the dribe home."

Warren Luff - "It's a surprise how much rear-end grip it has. i had to be quite aggressive to provoke the back-end out with is a huge credit to V-Sport/ They've made a great handling ute."

Rick Kelly - "This is the ulitmate car for an aussie guy: It sounds really good, stops really well and it's got grunt the whole way though the rev range. It's still a ute, but it's got good grip."

Technicolor-Certified ProTune Mode Adds 24p, 35Mbps Data Rate; Non-Destructive 3D LUT and Color Presets to Greatly Enable Professional Production Workflow

HALF MOON BAY, CA & HOLLYWOOD, CA, – (April 17, 2012) – GoPro, the world’s most versatile camera, and Technicolor, a worldwide leader in technology and color-science, announced today at the NAB 2012 Show in Las Vegas they have worked to embed Technicolor’s CineStyle™ color profile for the debut of the new GoPro Protune™ (a free firmware upgrade available for the HD HERO2 camera, available this summer).

Certified by Technicolor, and developed by GoPro, the Protune mode firmware upgrade is a significant development for the professional production and post-production market, which incorporates Technicolor color science into GoPro’s latest product launch. These new features combine to allow professional filmmakers a vastly improved and flexible workflow for seamless integration with other source material and post-production platforms.

Key features of the GoPro Protune mode include:

·         24fps frame rate, enabling GoPro HERO2 content to be easily intercut with other sources without a frame rate conversion;

·         35Mbps data rate for the industry’s highest quality compressed image with virtually zero artifacts;

·         Neutral color profile, allowing for greater flexibility in a color correction workflow;

·         Log curve encoding, offering more detail in shadows and highlights;

·         Reduced sharpening and noise reduction for improved flexibility in professional post- production and color design workflows.

“GoPro Protune mode is an extraordinary development for the entire professional production market – from filmmakers, cinematographers and DITs, to editors and colorists who are increasingly relying on the HERO2 for cinematic productions,” said David Newman, senior director of software engineering for GoPro. “Developing this with Technicolor has provided us with a level of technological expertise that optimizes Protune for the professional market. Filmmakers are making critical decisions every day on the tools they’ll invest in for their cinematic productions, and we are confident our collaboration with Technicolor makes their decision that much easier. We’re looking forward to our customers’ reaction when we unveil Protune at NAB 2012.”

“Technicolor is thrilled to make its color science available to GoPro throughout its Protune upgraded firmware,” stated Technicolor’s Alejandro Guerrero, senior vice president, Technicolor Digital Productions. “With more than 130,000 (and counting) cinematographers already using our CineStyle color profile, we are committed to expanding the CineStyle toolkit and are thrilled to support GoPro as it expands its market base.”

Seamless Integration with GoPro CineForm Studio

GoPro Protune mode makes integration with GoPro CineForm Studio simple, automatically detecting Protune settings and applying the default adjustments to create stunning images. The workflow is further enhanced by a variety of color tuning presets, or ‘looks’ that further enhance the filmmakers’ story.

Using Protune with GoPro CineForm Studio Premium and GoPro CineForm Studio Professional provides additional benefits, offering extensive color correction controls and customizable presets to create professional, cinematic looks from the GoPro HERO2 captured content. Non-destructive 3D LUTs provide even more flexibility, enabling users to further tweak their images, manipulate saturation and contrast and color correction controls to create highly stylized content.

GoPro Protune mode is available as a free firmware upgrade through the GoPro CineForm Studio software, which is also available as a free download.

2012 Evolution OZ Nationals

The team here at V-Sport are very excited to again be partnered with EvolutionOz to bring you the 7th annual EVO NATS, to be held at Wakefield Park in Goulburn, 22-24 June 2012.

Saturday morning will be the familiar Supersprint format from 8.30am, and the afternoon will see the running of the V-Sport medal sessions that contribute to the annual prize which as usual go down to the wire on Sunday afternoon. The usual slow Sunday is in the past with 3 exciting events to take place. Drivers will be split into 2 groups (timing will mean nothing here) and then the fun will begin.

The Evo Nats team have taken some inspiration from how the WRC guys run their premier stage at each WRC event. Group one will start with the all new V-Sport Super Special Stage which, involves something never before done at Wakefield Park, running the circuit in reverse (and including the hill climb as well). Starting on Pit Straight for a quick blast before U turning back around the course in reverse, through the Fishhook, then up through the hillclimb course, re-entering on Turn 4 and finishing down in turn 1.

Meanwhile the second Group will be near by at Goulburn Airport, where the full 1.2 kilometer runway will be used, so that means everyone gets to blast down the 800 meter drag stage twice. Once that is done, the air strip will be turned into a 1.7 kilometer high speed motokhana, through witches hats up and back , one car at a time. This is not 1st gear, not even 2nd gear ......this will be 3rd and 4th gear. This is a fantastic way to experience what owning an Evo is all about. The motokhana will also contribute to the V-Sport Medal.

Give the V-Sport Team a call today and we will make sure that your Evo is ready to go!!

Championship focus for Ryan Smart

Ryan Smart and John Allen have the championship in their sights after maintaining 2nd in the Bosch Australian Rally Championships after a less than perfect weekend at the Scouts rally in SA in the Barossa Valley on the last weekend in July.

The Rally SA roads are notoriously fast and Smart and Allen set a fantastic pace in Heat One, sitting comfortably in third position up until the final stage. The restricted Toyota Corolla’s front differential failed only 6kms from the finish of the heat, ending Ryan and John’s day in the Mt. Crawford forest.

Ryan's Toyota Corolla was fitted with the new Ferodo DS UNO brake pads for the SA Rally and this is what he had to say on Friday night. "We were trying the new Ferodo DS UNO brake pads this weekend and they were working really well, everything was going great and I was driving as fast as I could".

Sale to Sea

Sale to Sea – An Amputee Kayaking Challenge

Andrew Bedggood was involved in a car accident in 1983 resulting in the amputation of his right leg; crushing of his left leg below the knee and he serious head injuries. Andrew spent part of 1983 and all of 1984 in hospital, where his battle to return to a normal life began.

As part of his recovery, Andrew started kayaking on his local waterways around Maffra in East Gippsland to strengthen his upper body. It was during this time on the water that the dreamed of doing 'something big' in a Kayak. Andrew has turned his dream into reality, by organising the Sale to Sea kayaking challenge.

The first Sale to Sea Amputee Kayaking Challenge involved a journey of 120km from the Port of Sale to Lakes Entrance through the iconic Gippsland Lakes.  The event was run from the 7th Oct to 10th Oct 2009 during Amputee Awareness Week and as a lead up to International Day of Disabilities in December.  The Challenge was not a race, but an adventure undertaken by Andrew, 2 other amputees and 3 individuals with various types of disabilitiesto highlight victory over adversity and to promote a positive lifestyle.

The 2011 Sale to Sea Disability Kayak Challenge is again focused on assisting those living with a disability to live life on their terms. The number of participants is expected to grow this time as the reputation of the challenge spreads with meetings already held with Wheel Chair Sports Victoria and other services who wish to participate. Business support for the event is growing across the region with many of last years sponsors requesting to be a part of this unique example of one's ability to overcome adversity and have a go.

The Challenge was initially a small idea of mine to show that I am still willing to have a go and not give in to what I see as a small bump in the road of life, for life is what we make it and success in life is totally up to me.  My point of view is that the day my legs beat me, then that’s the day they put me in the ground and while I have the ability to stand upright and proud, then I will live my life on my terms.  So what’s next, the length of the Murray from the Mountains to the sea, who knows, but nothing is impossible if you believe in what you are doing and have the support to help you along the way.” Andrew Bedggood.

“V-Sport is proud to be associated with Sale to Sea, and wish Andrew Bedggood and all participants the best of luck for their upcoming adventure starting on March 16th..

Look out for footage taken from Andrew’s GoPro HD Sports Camera donated by V-Sport.”

V-SPORT - Mits. Evo IX - Brake Upgrade

EVO brought to a standstill

Evo brought to a standstill

A brake upgrade offered by a leading Australian performance specialist has been shown to dramatically improve the capabilities of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX.

In tests at Sydney's Oran Park race circuit, V-Sport Australia's new Evo IX upgrade reduced fade during repeated heavy braking and shortened the final distance by a stunning 10.3 metres.

On the tenth emergency stop from 100 km/h, the standard Evo IX pulled up in 45.8 metres. With the V-Sport upgrade that distance was reduced to just 35.5 metres.

"We are delighted by what we have been able to achieve by carefully selecting and matching proven components", says Tony, from V-Sport. "It makes a great car even better".

Evo brought to a standstill

Evo brought to a standstill   Few would question the '"go" of the Lancer. It is armed with an all-wheel drive system and a 2-litre turbocharged engine producing 206 kW and a torquey 355 Nm. V-Sport mechanics sensed, however, that there was room for improvement in the "stop" department.

"The standard Evo brake set-up is fine for everyday use," says Tony, "but it is when owners are really pushing hard, such on track days, that the limitations will be apparent".

 "With the upgrade it?s possible to brake harder and later, time after time, which means faster and more consistent laps".

"And of course, better brakes mean a safer car, on and off the racetrack".

V-Sport develops very specific brake upgrades for different models. At the heart of the Evo package is an ideal matching of Hawk Performance ceramic brake pads and DBA 4000 series 6x6 Wiper-Slot rotors (as used on the High Performance Australian V8 UTE Racing cars).

 Evo brought to a standstill

The selected Hawk Performance pads give high torque, excellent modulation, consistent pedal feel and good release characteristics. Importantly, the ceramic component gives first rate heat dissipation and the ability to handle extreme temperatures.

 Evo brought to a standstill  Evo brought to a standstill

As for the rotors, the 4000 Series is DBA's premium one-piece unit and V-Sport has opted for the 6x6 Wiper Slot version. This unique design provides huge bite and continually clears away gasses, resins and other impurities to give an excellent friction "face".

Its patented Kangaroo Paw ventilation system does away with conventional cooling vanes, instead using a network of 144 precisely positioned pillars. This gives greater strength as well as markedly improved heat handling.

Evo brought to a standstill  Thermo-graphic paint markings on the edge of the discs allow the owner to monitor the brake temperatures being achieved.

Completing the V-Sport package is AP Racing Dot 5.1 brake fluid, a premium road-and-track formula capable of running much higher temperatures than the OE (original equipment) fluid, plus Goodridge stainless steel braided lines.

Goodridge brake lines are used in Formula One, MotoGP racing, NASCAR and the World Rally Championship. Replacing the Evo?s rubber lines with this proven stainless steel braided product allows higher pressures to be achieved.

 Evo brought to a standstill  Evo brought to a standstill

"It took a lot of work to select, test and refine the upgrade," says Tony, "but the performance speaks for itself. Best of all, the package fits into the V-Sport credo of track level performance for a street car price".
