Championship focus for Ryan Smart
Ryan Smart and John Allen have the championship in their sights after maintaining 2nd in the Bosch Australian Rally Championships after a less than perfect weekend at the Scouts rally in SA in the Barossa Valley on the last weekend in July.
The Rally SA roads are notoriously fast and Smart and Allen set a fantastic pace in Heat One, sitting comfortably in third position up until the final stage. The restricted Toyota Corolla’s front differential failed only 6kms from the finish of the heat, ending Ryan and John’s day in the Mt.Crawford forest.
Ryan's Toyota Corolla was fitted with the new Ferodo DS UNO brake pads for the SA Rally and this is what he had to say on Friday night. "We were trying the new Ferodo DS UNO brake pads this weekend and they were working really well, everything was going great and I was driving as fast as I could".

V-Sport MY11 WRX Build Up

Looking at the specification of the current model WRX we saw great potential in the car, and what better way to gain an understanding than to purchase one and start modifying it. As an added incentive the car has been entered into the Motor Hot Tuner Challenge with the aim to produce a high performance, but user friendly, version of the already impressive WRX.
The Motor Magazine Hot Tuner Challenge has become an annual event bringing Performance Workshops
and Cars from all over Australia to Sydney’s Eastern Creek Raceway for 2 days of assessment at the
scrutiny of some of the toughest in the business.
Each car will be handed to a professional driver and put through their paces in tests including;
• Acceleration – 0-100km/h (secs), 400m (secs and Vmax) • Braking – 100-0km/h (m) • Lap testing – at Eastern Creek (laptime, Vmax and apex speeds) • Power – kW at the wheels • Skidpan – Motorkhana (secs) and/or slalom testing (secs)
The Hot Tuner Challenge is open to performance workshops by invitation only – All vehicle’s up for contention must be based on current road vehicle’s, be road registered and street legal. Absolutely any modifications are permitted as long as they meet current registration requirements and are available for public purchase at the time of the test. As such exhausts must be in place and racing slicks are not permitted when presented for the trials. The tests will be performed by a number of professional drivers and the cars will also be subject to a number of journalist testing over the 2 days.
V-Sport have carefully selected a package of engine, braking, suspension and tyre upgrades to enhance Subaru’s iconic performance for owners who like a more track-focussed weapon, whilst still being able to use it as a daily driver.
Bring on the challenge!!

Andrew Bedggood was involved in a car accident in 1983 resulting in the amputation of his right leg; crushing of his left leg below the knee and he serious head injuries. Andrew spent part of 1983 and all of 1984 in hospital, where his battle to return to a normal life began.
As part of his recovery, Andrew started kayaking on his local waterways around Maffra in East Gippsland to strengthen his upper body. It was during this time on the water that the dreamed of doing 'something big' in a Kayak. Andrew has turned his dream into reality, by organising the Sale to Sea kayaking challenge.
Thefirst Sale to Sea Amputee Kayaking Challenge involved a journey of 120km from the Port of Sale to Lakes Entrance through the iconic GippslandLakes. The event was run from the 7th Oct to 10th Oct 2009 during Amputee Awareness Week and as a lead up to International Day of Disabilities in December. The Challenge was not a race, but an adventure undertaken by Andrew, 2 other amputees and 3 individuals with various types of disabilities - to highlight victory over adversity and to promote a positive lifestyle.
The 2011 Sale to Sea Disability Kayak Challenge is again focused on assisting those living with a disability to live life on their terms. The number of participants is expected to grow this time as the reputation of the challenge spreads with meetings already held with Wheel Chair Sports Victoria and other services who wish to participate. Business support for the event is growing across the region with many of last years sponsors requesting to be a part of this unique example of one's ability to overcome adversity and have a go.
“The Challenge was initially a small idea of mine to show that I am still willing to have a go and not give in to what I see as a small bump in the road of life, for life is what we make it and success in life is totally up to me. My point of view is that the day my legs beat me, then that’s the day they put me in the ground and while I have the ability to stand upright and proud, then I will live my life on my terms. So what’s next, the length of the Murray from the Mountains to the sea, who knows, but nothing is impossible if you believe in what you are doing and have the support to help you along the way.” Andrew Bedggood.
“V-Sport is proud to be associated with Sale to Sea, and wish Andrew Bedggood and all participants the best of luck for their upcoming adventure starting on March 16th..
Look out for footage taken from Andrew’s GoPro HD Sports Camera donated by V-Sport.”

V-SPORT - Mits. Evo IX - Brake Upgrade

EVO brought to a standstill
A brake upgrade offered by a leading Australian performance specialist has been shown to dramatically improve the capabilities of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX.
In tests at Sydney's Oran Park race circuit, V-Sport Australia's new Evo IX upgrade reduced fade during repeated heavy braking and shortened the final distance by a stunning 10.3 metres.
On the tenth emergency stop from 100 km/h, the standard Evo IX pulled up in 45.8 metres. With the V-Sport upgrade that distance was reduced to just 35.5 metres.
"We are delighted by what we have been able to achieve by carefully selecting and matching proven components", says Tony, from V-Sport. "It makes a great car even better".
Few would question the '"go" of the Lancer. It is armed with an all-wheel drive system and a 2-litre turbocharged engine producing 206 kW and a torquey 355 Nm. V-Sport mechanics sensed, however, that there was room for improvement in the "stop" department.
"The standard Evo brake set-up is fine for everyday use," says Tony, "but it is when owners are really pushing hard, such on track days, that the limitations will be apparent".
"With the upgrade it?s possible to brake harder and later, time after time, which means faster and more consistent laps".
"And of course, better brakes mean a safer car, on and off the racetrack".
V-Sport develops very specific brake upgrades for different models. At the heart of the Evo package is an ideal matching of Hawk Performance ceramic brake pads and DBA 4000 series 6x6 Wiper-Slot rotors (as used on the High Performance Australian V8 UTE Racing cars).
The selected Hawk Performance pads give high torque, excellent modulation, consistent pedal feel and good release characteristics. Importantly, the ceramic component gives first rate heat dissipation and the ability to handle extreme temperatures.
As for the rotors, the 4000 Series is DBA's premium one-piece unit and V-Sport has opted for the 6x6 Wiper Slot version. This unique design provides huge bite and continually clears away gasses, resins and other impurities to give an excellent friction "face".
Its patented Kangaroo Paw ventilation system does away with conventional cooling vanes, instead using a network of 144 precisely positioned pillars. This gives greater strength as well as markedly improved heat handling.
Thermo-graphic paint markings on the edge of the discs allow the owner to monitor the brake temperatures being achieved.
Completing the V-Sport package is AP Racing Dot 5.1 brake fluid, a premium road-and-track formula capable of running much higher temperatures than the OE (original equipment) fluid, plus Goodridge stainless steel braided lines.
Goodridge brake lines are used in Formula One, MotoGP racing, NASCAR and the World Rally Championship. Replacing the Evo?s rubber lines with this proven stainless steel braided product allows higher pressures to be achieved.
"It took a lot of work to select, test and refine the upgrade," says Tony, "but the performance speaks for itself. Best of all, the package fits into the V-Sport credo of track level performance for a street car price".
