Oran Park Superlap 2008
|
Oran Park Raceway played host to the inaugural round of the Superlap Australia on Saturday 5th of July where V-Sport was a sponsor and also an entrant with our EVO 8.5 RS. A perfect winter day welcomed a massive field of sixty five of Australia's fastest import track cars.
Fierce competition in both Clubsprint and Open classes provided plenty of non-stop action making the Superlap a perfect spectators' event.
Congratulations to all of V-Sports customers who took part, particularly Elias Augernios in his Insight Motorsport prepared Turboed Honda S2000 driven by John Boston, who ran in the Clubsporint Class on Ferodo DS3000 pads. Congratulation also go to Peter Lucas in his J&S Motorsport prepared Hinda S/C powered Lotus Exige running in the Open Class on Pagid RS14 pads.

Stack ST700
As the Australian motorsport distributor for Stack, V-sport has supplied the new Holden VE V8 Ute competitors with Stack's ST700 Mini-Dash system.
James from Brock Race engineering, the constructors of the new Holden VE V8 Ute racecars, chose the ST700 after having seen the all-in-one analogue and display gauge on Stack's website. The popular Dash Display integrates an analogue Tachometer, Speedometer, 2 pressure or temperature gauges, Sequential Shift Light and Voltmeter into a single 80mm instrument. The compact design meets the needs of the new Holden VE V8 Ute as there is a clear display system with user configurability (including adjustable Alarm Levels to suite individual vehicle requirements) which fits with the limited amount of dashboard space available.
Following discussion between Brock Race Engineering and V-Sport about what type of information should be available to the drivers; V-Sport supplied the Stack ST700 with two pressure sensors to monitor Oil and Fuel, extension leads for the sensors and the optional of lap timing system.
Please contact V-Sport for all your Stack display and data acquisition enquiries or view Stack's extensive range at www.stackltd.com

V-SPORT - Mits. Evo IX - Brake Upgrade

EVO brought to a standstill
|
A brake upgrade offered by a leading Australian performance specialist has been shown to dramatically improve the capabilities of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX.
In tests at Sydney’s Oran Park race circuit, V-Sport Australia’s new Evo IX upgrade reduced fade during repeated heavy braking and shortened the final distance by a stunning 10.3 metres. |
| On the tenth emergency stop from 100 km/h, the standard Evo IX pulled up in 45.8 metres. With the V-Sport upgrade that distance was reduced to just 35.5 metres.
‘We are delighted by what we have been able to achieve by carefully selecting and matching proven components,’ says Tony, from V-Sport. ‘It makes a great car even better.’ |
|
|
Few would question the ‘go’ of the Lancer. It is armed with an all-wheel drive system and a 2-litre turbocharged engine producing 206 kW and a torquey 355 Nm. V-Sport mechanics sensed, however, that there was room for improvement in the ‘stop’ department.
‘The standard Evo brake set-up is fine for everyday use,’ says Tony, ‘but it is when owners are really pushing hard, such on track days, that the limitations will be apparent. |
| ‘With the upgrade it’s possible to brake harder and later, time after time, which means faster and more consistent laps.
‘And of course, better brakes mean a safer car, on and off the racetrack.’
V-Sport develops very specific brake upgrades for different models. At the heart of the Evo package is an ideal matching of Hawk Performance ceramic brake pads and DBA 4000 series 6x6 Wiper-Slot rotors (as used on the High Performance Australian V8 UTE Racing cars). |
| The selected Hawk Performance pads give high torque, excellent modulation, consistent pedal feel and good release characteristics. Importantly, the ceramic component gives first rate heat dissipation and the ability to handle extreme temperatures.
As for the rotors, the 4000 Series is DBA’s premium one-piece unit and V-Sport has opted for the 6x6 Wiper Slot version. This unique design provides huge bite and continually clears away gasses, resins and other impurities to give an excellent friction ‘face’.
Its patented Kangaroo Paw ventilation system does away with conventional cooling vanes, instead using a network of 144 precisely positioned pillars. This gives greater strength as well as markedly improved heat handling.
|
Thermo-graphic paint markings on the edge of the discs allow the owner to monitor the brake temperatures being achieved.
Completing the V-Sport package is AP Racing Dot 5.1 brake fluid, a premium road-and-track formula capable of running much higher temperatures than the OE (‘original equipment’) fluid, plus Goodridge stainless steel braided lines. |
Goodridge brake lines are used in Formula One, MotoGP racing, NASCAR and the World Rally Championship. Replacing the Evo’s rubber lines with this proven stainless steel braided product allows higher pressures to be achieved.
‘It took a lot of work to select, test and refine the upgrade,’ says Tony, ‘but the performance speaks for itself. Best of all, the package fits into the V-Sport credo of “track level performance for a street car price”.
V-SPORT EVO VIII Tarmac Rally Car
This year V-SPORT used a Mitsubishi EVO VIII to compete in various tarmac rallies around Australia including Targa Tasmania, Rally Tas, Rally Burnie, and the Dutton Rally National Series. Running these rallies gives V-SPORT the opportunity to showcase some of the components we sell, and to show that a small amount of modification can give you that competitive edge by improving the braking, performance, and handling.
For Safety, the V-SPORT EVO was fitted with a roll cage, Racetech head restraint seats and Racetech seat belts. The car has not been heavily modified; the first thing we did was to increase the Braking capabilities. We fitted an AP Racing strap drive brake kit to the front, and we did caliper upgrade on the rear. To make the car easy to get around the tight turns we fitted an AP racing Hydraulic hand brake. We then installed an aftermarket ECU and exhaust as well a suitable track suspension. The modifications gave us a brilliant package for the events the car was going to compete in.
The following was also used in the car to give all the information we needed; we used a ST700 Stack Tacho, this is able to monitor speed, boost pressure, battery voltage (other channels can be monitored) it can also be used as a lap timer. We have installed a Traqmate GPS lap timer with chase cam camera. This allows us to have a easy way of recording lap times as well as being able to record Data an overlay it with video.
When the car competes in tarmac rallies the driver and navigator need to be able to communicate, this is done through the Stilo WRC communication system. The Navigator uses a Hidja rally computer to ensure the navigator calls the notes at the right time.
Be sure to watch out for this car in upcoming rallies such as the drive Bathurst in December.
