October 2012

We spent a fun couple of days at Wakefield testing and further improving our Gold and new Blue Series suspension on V-Sports 86s. Big thanks to the V-Sport team, Neal Bates and Murray and Josh Coote for making this possible.

Motor Magazine Hot Tuner Challenge

The Toyota 86 performed extremely well placing 5th in the under $75k group. According to V-Sport's John Healey, the aim is to create a car that does not upset the 86's natural balance. " A good car, but one that's also a little more fun on the track", Healey says. V-Sports plan was to end up with a car that can be driven to the track/event, compete hard and then be driven home. As the Toyota 86 is only worth $30k, all modifications were kept simple and affordable however extremly effective. With AP Racing venitlated rotors (3300mm front/316mm rear) as well as four-piston calipers up front and twin piston calipers at the rear the Toyota took out the top points in the 100-0km/h test. Running a good track time and figure eight time helped the 86 secure 5th place. For the full Hot Tuner report make sure you pick up a copy of the October Motor Magazine.

Warren Luff - "these guys have spent a lot of time improving the handling package without taking away too much of the 86's fun character. Brakes are fantastic, it sounds rorty: it's such a fun car to drive."

Rick Kelly - "It's an awesome bit of kit: just fantastic to drive. It's one of the only cars where I could keep it flat though most of the corners. Whatever they have done, they're right on the money."

June 2012

V-Sport have entered one of the exciting new Toyota 86 GT's in the 2012 Motor Hot Tuner competition. After our success last year with the V-Sport WRX, we were looking for a car that would be a different challenge, and bring some additional interest to the Hot Tuner Challenge.

The V-Sport 86 GT was collected from Sydney City Toyota last week, one of the first customer 86's in the country. We have already been to Wakefield Park to give it the first run on the track in standard trim. Now begins the task of developing the 86 into a track day car with improvements designed to enhance the track day experience while retaining the essential elements of the 86 which are affordability, drivability and above all, FUN! Follow the link to see just how much fun Neal Bates had around Wakefield in the standard car.

Some of the projects planned for the VS 86 GT include:

· AP Racing brake upgrade kits front & rear

· Goodridge braided brake line kits for both standard and upgraded brakes

· Lighter wheels to suit the larger brakes

· Performance exhaust system

· Upgraded suspension

· Engine and ECU mods

We'll document the work on the 86 with regular updates and photos on the V-Sport Website and Facebook page.
