Hot Tuner Challenge 2011

V-Sport Australia entered its MY11 WRX Sedan in Motor Magazines Hot Tuner Challenge 2011 at Eastern Creek this year.

The WRX was noted as being a 'real hottie' due to its tough as, Black Advan RD-D 18 inch rims with 245mm Neova AD08 street/track rubber that, unlike a true R-spec tyre.

The WRX proved to be excellent in the go/stop/turn department which was proven on its performance on the soaking wet motorkhana skidpan. Stephen Richards whipped around the cones for a time of 45.5 sec, a number so quick that none of the other 25 Hot Tuner Competitors came close. The WRX was aptly crowned the 'Hot Tuner Skidpan King'.

V-Sport chose quality components for the front brakes, as follows:

-       AP Racing CP5200 4 piston caliper

-       AP racing 48 vane slotted 330mm x 28mm discs

-       V-Sport anodised alloy hats and brackets

-       Ferodo DS2500 pads

-       Goodridge street legal braided brake lines

"the AP brake upgrade on the V-Sport WRX certainly addressed one of the key weaknesses of the WRX. Lap after lap you had confidence to brake late and know that that there would be no fade or loss of brake performance as is common with the standard WRX brakes. Certainly for any WRX owner who is looking to do regular track days, this upgrade is a must". Warren Luff.

The full report is in the September issue of Motor.

V-Sport MY11 WRX build

To compliment our strong presence in the Mitsubishi Evolution market, V-Sport felt the next logical step was to apply our experience to the Subaru world. Looking at the specifications of the current model WRX we saw great potential in the car, and what better way to gain an understanding than to purchase one and start modifying it. As an added incentive the car was entered into the Motor Hot Tuner Challenge with the aim to produce a high performance, but user friendly, version of the already impressive WRX.
